[comp.dcom.lans] Sun Microsystem's TOPS network

gt0652b@prism.gatech.EDU (gt0652b Josh Guttman) (02/27/91)

Does anyone out there know anything about TOPS distributed network.
I want to run it on a 386 server and make a network comprised of MAC's
IBM's and connect it to a xenix server running several wyse 60 terminals.

What is involved in setting this thing up and how fast is it.
Is there a function that puts most of the netork weight on one
machine (The other machines aren't so hot)?

Is there any reason that you do not want to use NFS? There are several NFS
clients for Mac and PC's out there now and it would be very easy to setup a NFS
server on the 386 box, and connect all of the others to it via NFS. Thereby,
keeping the majority of the load on the 386 box.
