I'm looking for an inexpensive way to connect a DELNI based network to
a Cisco router via some existing fiber, here's what's in place now:
Vax8530
AT&T 62.5 micron fiber |
Cisco AGS+ ---------------------- DELNI - VAX8700
|
Vax8530
The Cisco has standard ethernet 15pin ports as does the DELNI.
(Possibly naive) Questions:
1) Cisco has recommended using Cabletr
on or Synoptics Fiber-Optic Transceivers
on their end, what do I use on the DELNI side?
2) Is the DELNI a multiport repeater, or multiport transceiver (and what's
the difference ;-) )?
3) I noticed that DEC's networking manual advises using a maximum
of 2 repeaters, which would seem to contradict the 4 repeater rule. Is this
because a DELNI counts as a repeater?
Thanks in advance for any advice, I will gladly summarize for the net if this
is of interest.
regards,
Brian
