[comp.dcom.lans] Alternatives to PC-NFS LifeLine

ted@arsocomvax.socom.mil (Ted Nolan) (03/14/91)

Hello folks,

Some of our clients have an upcoming requirement for a LAN E-Mail system
that does recipt (or non-recipt) notification on sent messages. Lifeline 1.0,
which is our current system, does not do this, and from the little bit I've
seen about it, neither does LifeLine 2.0. Does anybody know of an email
package that works with Sun's PC-NFS that has this feature? As long as we're
going to change, X.400/GOSIP would be a plus too. It would still have to be
able to gateway mail into and out of the SMTP world also.

				Thanks,

While on the subject of mailers - I am looking for a mailer that runs
on Novell Netware LAN (meaning its DOS based) which uses a format that
one can pass over to a UNIX based system, and which rmail(1),
sendmail(1), and/or smail(1) will recognize, and forward to the
indicated site and user. Conversely, it needs to be able to receive
messages from the UNIX machine and pass them to the indicated user on
the Netware LAN. Does such an animal exist?

Currently in use is WordPerfect's ml mail program - its pretty, and
works OK for mail confined to the LAN, but no go for outside the LAN.
No, its acquisition was NOT my idea....

Thanks for any suggestions or ideas....
