This group helped me with a similar question in the past. Now I have a new requirement. A program will be used to download portions of a mainframe database to a PC database (IDMS to Sybase...but that's irrelevant here) on a fairly regular schedule. It would be possible to use HLLAPI or some such mechanism with 3270 file transfers except that I'd much prefer to use a batch mechanism for timing and synchronization purposes. That is, I want a host resident program to be regularly scheduled whether or not the PC is down or connected. That leaves me with either RJE or printer emulation on the PC. Either are fine. Each file transfer (or virtual print job) would have to be downloaded into a queue with each file getting a unique filename (so that if my PC program fails to resync the database, the data will be retained forever). My preference is for full RJE capability, but simple printer off of a cluster controller (emulated 3270 and printer) would be fine. There currently exists a connection to the mainframe using an IRMA type card. A new card would be installed for this application. I could also connect a serial link to the mainframe if required. I'm looking for actual experience with products that you would recommend. The PC can be running MS-DOS or OS/2 (OS/2 preferred). Thanks in advance for any recommendations. -- -- Any disclaimers made for me, by me, or about me - may or may not accurately reflect my failure to be reflecting the opinions of myself or anyone else. ************************************************* * Brian Jay Gould - Professional Brain-stormer * *************************************************
