[comp.dcom.lans] Experience with LANtern

I was at a network management system demonstration and I asked how
they monitored the physical cable plant (with respect to loading,
traffic patterns, etc..).  They indicated that devices were available
that could be queried to provide such information (by SNMP, no less).

Anyway it was mentioned that LANtern was one such product, and that
watchdog (from Network General) might also fill this roll.

Is anyone willing to share their experiences with me?  Vendors welcome,
of course.
