[comp.dcom.lans] 50-pin to modular adaptors

sichermn@beach.csulb.edu (Jeff Sicherman) (04/07/91)

My Graybar catalog shows such adaptors but none that have 4 conductors
8 pin sockets. There are 4 conductor 6-pin ones. HOWEVER, this catalog is
copyright 1987, before much of the modular connector for LANs hoopla so
there may be some newer stuff around that satisfies the 8pin, 4-conductor
requirement. (The manufacturer of the ones I found is Allen Tel.)

If you're into a little of your own wiring, there are Modular jack Panels
and LAn Twisted Pair Distribution Panels in the catalog for converting 25-pair
cables to modular conenctors (4, 6, and 8 pin versions). They are mostly rack
mount.

Following up my own post - next I'll be flaming myself ...

A Spring 1990 Graybar Telecom Digest has a FexPanel (tm) made by
Siemon Company with the following specs:

Pair twists maintained up to point of termination for optimal data
    transmissions

Jack contacts have 50 micro-inches of gold plating per FCC requirements

  Optional wire hangers

48 modular jacks are connected to 66-type quick clips OR 25-pair
connectors on the rear of the panel. Panels are available with
1-, 2-, 3-, and 8-pair modular jacks as standards. (Other custom
     ones also)
