[comp.dcom.lans] Summary: another 10Base-T wiring question

lairdkb@mentor.cc.purdue.edu (Kyler Laird) (04/09/91)

My original posting was a request for pointers to an adapter to go from 12
RJ-45's (pins 1,2,3,6) to 50-pin telco for 10BaseT hub connection. Several
harmonica adapters may appear to do this, but the ones I encountered passed
all 8 pins through, thus they had only 6 RJ-45 ports (8*6=48).

I was pointed to a David Systems Type E Adapter by Alfred Reid (areid@med.
unc.edu). This seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. I ordered one
today. ($40 with ed. discount)

Also, from: ames!amdcad!netcom.com!jbreeden@cs.purdue.edu (John Breeden)

1. Some one makes 12 RJ45's to 50 pin telco wired on the data lines (pins 1,2
3 & 6). As I recall it's in the Graybar catalog, or possibly the AT&T PDS
"parts" catalog (doin' this from home ... catalogs in office).

2. If you havn't installed blocks yet (or are replacing 66 blocks), you could
do 50 pin telco to 12 4 pin 110 block clips.

3. Weird one of the month: This one's for real. Large corpration with about
   12,000 nodes throughout California:

50 pin telco to 12 RJ11's into a Nevada patch panel. Nevada patch panel
to 66 block. At the desk, 4 pair split out to two RJ11s (data and phone).
Custom RJ11 to RJ45 cable used from jack to AUI. Don't recommend it, just
   showing one example.

Thanks for the help - I was dreading having to fuss with changing the install
and moving wires on the punch-down block.

Kyler,

I am not sure if I understood your request, but here is a shot...

HP has a device called a "Modular Adaptor" PN# 28638 which takes
the data lines for 10-BASE-T and brings them into a 25 pair TELCO
connector.

It is used as an adaptor for our EtherTwist HUBs to allow direct
connection to RJ45 connectors.

Hope this helps!
