[comp.dcom.lans] Server for Network with Lots of Data

ANDQC@CUNYVM.BITNET (Andrew A. Beveridge) (05/16/91)

Dear DCOM-LAN-ist:

We are installing a departmental LAN to support SAS and SPSSx and other
applications using lots of data. We are going to get 486 workstations with
80mb hard drives. Is there any reason to get a server with a 486. It will
be an ethernet LAN using thinet, with Novell Netware 286. Any comments or
advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks a lot. Earlier advice on LASER and other bridges were most helpful.
In fact, we got the grant to do this in part because of that help.
