[comp.dcom.lans] Network monitoring/analysis for ethernet/token-ring

anthes@geocub.UUCP (Franklin Anthes) (05/23/91)

K
Keywords: Sniffer,Lanalyzer,

I'm looking for a solution to monitor/analyze multiple ethernet and token-ring
networks.

Specifically I would greatly appreciate:

- references to articles on the subject (comparitive reviews etc.)
- names of other products that meet the requirements

I'm particularly interested in Unix based solutions, but I haven't seen any
so far (but my search is just starting).

I will summarize and re-post the information I receive.
Please forgive me if someone has already done a survey of this kind, in that
case I'd like a copy of the summary

Merci beaucoup

Hewlett-Packard makes both the 4972 (802.3 only) and the Network Advisor (.3 & .5).

Network Advisor was announced in April 1991.

Wandel and Goltermann make an analyzer that can do two lans at a time.
it'll hold 4 different interface cards and two analyzers. you can use any combination of the analyzers and nic's and they'll work simultaneously. FDDI card should be out in 6 months. They're a german company but they make the analyzer in the US.
