We have 8 unix minis all connected together using thick ethernet and all are running TCP/IP. We have a VAX 4000 in another building running LAT. We have PCs connected to the unix using TCP/IP software and a terminal emulator over ethernet cards. We have PCs connected to the VAX using LAT and a terminal emulator over ethernet cards. We would like to have our unix users access the VAX (for terminal emulation) by having the XYPLEX MAXServer translate the telnet to the LAT equivalent of telnet. We do not want to have to run LAT software on our PCs to access the VAX. Similarly, our VAX users would like to be able to access our unix computers without having to run TCP/IP and use the XYPLEX MAXServer to convert LAT to TCP/IP's telnet. Has anyone done this? How successful is it? By the way, we know we can run TCP/IP on the VAX, but that would mean PC users would have to buy TCP/IP software Right now the PC users are loading PCSA and Novell. To load TCP/IP software would leave us virtually no memory to run applications even after using QEMM or 386-to-the-Max. Any info is greatly appreciated.
