[comp.periphs] Maxtor disks

I got the following info yesterday. I don't have prices yet, but these
are supposedly production items. I believe that there is 760MB unit
but I don;t see it in the stuff I have.

I would like to point a few things about maxtor:

	do not expect to get your drive serviced. You are buying a disposable
consumer item. If it goes bad it is meant to be thrown away.

For example:
	Maxtor does NOT provide service information for their drives to
ANY major disk service places. You are stuck in going to them. They will 
not even provide you with a technical manual.

What to do:
   good question.... Maxtor is still among  the most reliable drives made,
not mentioning being very good in performance also.  As for myself.... I
think I am getting a fujitsu  ... they seem to make competatively priced
stuff that is at least as reliable... but MORE importantly , they ARE
willing to service it and/or share the service information with outside
contractors.

The last one above is the 760 Mbyter - the `760' in the `8760' refers to 
the unformatted size.
