[comp.periphs] Removable Media Drives for Sun?

km@emory.uucp (Ken Mandelberg) (12/15/87)

Sun doesn't sell removable media disk drives, but I'm sure there
must be third party vendors that do. Can anyone tell me what is
available? I susppose the old DEC RMO5 (CDC whatever) will run off
the standard SMD controller, but those are really uneconomic to
maintain. Surely, there is something better now a days.

An optimal solution for us would be a SMD drive that could be run either
off a Vax 780 (using an SI controller) or off the Sun's Xylogics.

The CDC 9766 (the drive that is PART of the RM05) will kill you
in maintenance costs. There are more recent CDC removable drives
out if that's what you want. I missed the original message, but
if it is for security reasons that you want to remove the media,
Fujitsu makes a drive that you can slip the HDA out of and lock it
up.
