[comp.periphs] Wanted: Good disk drives for VAX 11

irwin@uiucdcsb.cs.uiuc.edu (12/17/87)

First to Bill Stewart, I agree with William re the Eagle and SuperEagle.
We have 9 Vaxen plus several Suns, a Pyramid 90x and a Encore Multimax
using Eagle disks. These are a Fujitsu product. The Fujitsu part is
M2351 and M2361 (also known as 9751 and 9761 via Systems Industries).
The M2361 is know by two nick names, double eagle and super eagle. On
the above mentioned machines, we have 18 of the 9751s and 12 of the 9761s.

Now, to William Robertson, if the SI rep upgraded your 9761s with new
HDAs, then the trouble is gone and the disk will be reliable. There was
a contamination of the storage media from a resin used during manufacture,
that has caused this trouble. Futjitsu has had to replace about every
HDA produced on the super eagles, before the bug was found and corrected.

Mr. Stewart, you might also look for used 9751s, as there are some
begining to show up on the market at reasonable prices. They should
be a good buy.

If you do not subscribe (free) to the Processor, a tabloid, you should.
If not, call 800-247-4880. They carry ads from a multitude of brokers/
vendors, where one can purchase both new and used equipment, or can
trade off current not needed hdwr toward the purchase of something else.
