I'm living in this nice old farmhouse which has been converted into apartments. The house suffers from insufficient power and old wiring. When the refrigerator kicks in, the lights dim! (sheesh!) Up till now, I haven't had any computer related problems because of it, since my Amiga A1000 handles brownouts very well. However, I will soon be setting up an Amiga A2000 and expect to have a hard disk up and running in a month or so. My suspicion is that the brownouts will cause me no end of grief with all this new equipment. I'm sure I'll need a line conditioner or UPS of some kind, and I'd like to get some help on what features I should be looking for when purchasing such equipment. Any recommendations on specific units, places to buy them and prices would be greatly appreciated. If someone could provide me with a simple circuit that would help protect me against drops in power so I could build something myself, that would be great (a friend mentioned that some large capacitors may do the trick). Please mail all responses directly to me and I will summarize my findings and solutions to the net.
