[comp.periphs] Transcript - Postscript driver for SUN - bugs

anc@camcon.uucp (Adrian Cockcroft) (03/09/88)

After my appeal for advice on laser printers I got this message "from the
horse's mouth" about the driver software.

:I don't have any advice for you about heavier-duty PostScript
:printers (sorry).
:
:However, I do know about TranScript. The problems you are experiencing are
:almost certainly in TranScript, NOT in the printer. There is no easy
:patch that will fix everything -- it's a number of race conditions in the
:pscomm program. (Some of the more common ones have had patches posted for
:them -- I haven't got those...). There is a new version of TranScript
:available that does fix the problems. Costs $75 to upgrade. Write
:Libby Ackley here, and ask for TranScript 2.1. If you enclose a PO for
:$75, they will send a tape (specify tar or cpio.)
:
:Also, TranScript is supposed to run with any PostScript printer -- there
:should be no compatibility problems with other printers.

I am running Transcript 2.0 which is the current release supported
by SUN. I called SUN (UK) software support and they didn't know about
release 2.1, were going to chase it but never got back to me.
I'm in two minds whether to wait for SUN (yawn) or shell out $75.
I think I'll hassle SUN software support again first.
