[comp.periphs] 3rd Party Laser Printers on Vaxen

braun@drivax.UUCP (Kral) (03/11/88)

Ok, so what 3rd party (non-DEC) laser printer do *you* use with your Vaxen?
We're using Xerox X2700s (yuk-poo). The Xerox Technical support people around
here act like they've never had one (or any) of their machines hooked up to a
REAL (tm) computer before, and can't seem to get them to work reliably (or help
us to get them to work so). Any recommendations?

(BTW: we're turning about 6000 pages a month)

Thanx,

We have a wide assortment of HP Laserjets hanging off our Vax (4.3bsd,
not Ultrix). We use Elan's "eroff" and DWB for most stuff, and also use
the lj's for plain old dumping of files.

I currently have a Laserjet+ with 2 meg memory option sitting next to
me on a "spooler box", so that my (and my office neighbor's) Vectra
PC's com1 cable and the Vax port can both drive the device without
conflict. (The spooler box does handshaking so that the device just
looks busy when the other computer is using it.)

I'd suggest looking into the Laserjet 2000, which is the high-volume
one. The literature says max 70,000 pages per month, so you should
have no problem! See your local HP sales rep...
