I have a Compaq monochrome monitor sitting idle, that I wish to graft onto an old IBM PC. I know how to wire up the external power, but I have a problem with the monitor's modes. You see, the Compaq monitor is bisynchronous. That is, it can match its operating frequency for either monochrome or CGA. This feature works fine in a Compaq, using a Compaq graphics card. (In CGA mode, it maps the colors to intensity levels.) Unfortunately, it appears that the monitor always comes up in CGA mode if used on another PC or using a non-Compaq graphics card. So: how do I force the Compaq monitor to work at monochrome mode frequency? I wish to connect it to a TTL-output Hercules-clone card. There must be a lot of these monitors sitting around in closets and basements, from people upgrading to EGA etc. Thanks. You can answer me here or send me a FidoNet message. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Compaq is a trademark of Compaq Corp.
