[comp.periphs] Dots Perfect

joeloda@aicchi.UUCP (Joseph D. Loda) (04/11/88)

Does anyone out there have any experience with the (I assume) graphics
ROM update to Epson printers by Dresselhaus called Dots Perfect. I have
an old Epson MX-80 that does nothing but slowly print ASCII, and was
wondering exactly how this upgrade worked, and the level of user
satisfaction.

Thanks!

I have the Dresselhaus Dots-perfect replacement chip that I put into my
RX-80 Epson a couple of years ago. It has quite a few fonts that I ignore
and a very nice letter-quality font that approximates decent typewriter
face. However I caution you, don't combine the Dots-perfect enhanced font
with anything else -- I made the mistake of running my PC-Write demo of
the various styles that PC-Write can do on a dot printer when I got that,
while the RX-80 was set for NLQ font with Dots-P in. Jammed the print head.
Could have been a coincidence but I think it was the combination.
I bought a new print head and have been using the printer with Dots-P ever
since with no problems. Can't tell you HOW it works but it replaces the
chip in the printer that has the fonts on it. You select fonts by tapping
various key combinations on the line/page advance keys.
