Does anyone have any experience, or interesting information on the new GIGA-1200 (4mm) DAT Cartridge tape backup system from Gigatape Inc. (Carlsbad CA (619)931-9122)? I just got a product specification from them over the fax machine and it *seems* to be a pretty good product. Here are the highlights: Storage Capacity 1.2 to 8.4 Gigabytes Recording Density 61,000 bpi Track Density 1,869 tpi Storage Media 4mm DAT (3.81 mm) metal coating 200 feet (60 meters) Recording Technology helical scan R/W Heads 2 Data Transfer Rate sustained 192Kbytes/sec burst 1.5Mbytes/sec Internal Storage Buffer 1Mbyte RAM Ave. Access Time/Block 20 seconds R/W at max. capacity and Transfer rate less than 2 hours Interfaces SCSI, QIC, RSDI, and PERTEC/CIPHER I don't have any price, but I bet it's high.
