[comp.periphs] Serial Keyboards

rm@edison.GE.COM (Bob Mosolgo) (06/30/88)

Hello net......

I'm configuring an IBM-PC compatible with some unusual peripherals, one of
which is a serial(RS-232/RS-422) ASCII keyboard. The primary motivation for
this is to locate the keyboard at a remote location. Standard PC keyboards
are not too great at extended distances.

Basically, I'm looking for any information any of you may have on keyboards
of this type. The interface, as stated earlier is RS-232 or RS-422. Keyboard
layout is not so critical. It would be nice if the keyboard were
programmable.

So far, the only supplier of this type of device that I am aware of is
Kortron. Any info you may have would be helpful. Also, I do realize that the
application using this keyboard would require special software - in order to
use this unit instead of the standard keyboard.

Thanks, and if sufficient interest is expressed, I will summarize and post.
