I recently had my hard disk system serviced (a Seagate ST-238R with an Adaptec RLL 2070 controller) because it would read and write but would no longer boot. The company that worked on it found nothing wrong with the controller but said that they had to "rewrite the servo burst". Well, to make a long story short, after spending a fair amount of money I still can not boot off of the hard disk. Is there such a thing as a "servo burst" on a ST-238R? Are these guys giving me the run around? Bob Benedict benedict@geops.geo.washington.edu Univ. of Washington Geophysics Program, AK-50 Seattle, WA 98195

I thought it was very unusual for a disk drive with an even number of heads to have a servo surface. Mike Berger University of Illinois berger@clio.las.uiuc.edu {convex | pur-ee}!uiucuxc!clio!berger
