We have an old Cipher tape drive currently attached to a Data General machine that will be going to the junkyard in a month or so. An ID tag inside the cabinet says "Model 0190640-98-0750U" Like I said, it is OLD - date of manufacture is sometime in 1977. I was thinking of hooking it up to our VAX 785 when the DG goes away. Is it worth even considering this? Is there anybody selling a board and software to allow such a beast to talk to a VAX/VMS system? This is an 800/1600 bpi drive and if it would be attached to the VAX it would function as a backup drive to the TU78 we currently use. Thanks in advance. -- David W.
