[comp.periphs] More than two floppy drives?

david@daisy.UUCP (David Schachter) (02/24/89)

My Everex Step 386/20 has three floppy drives installed: 1.2 MB, 360 KB, and
720 KB. The first two are 5.25 inch drives, the last one is a 3.5 inch drive.
Currently, the 360 KB drive is disconnected, as the WD1007A ESDI disk con-
troller installed supports only two floppy drives.

Question: can I install an additional floppy controller to connect the 360 KB
drive (and perhaps a tape drive, someday, for backups)?

Question: Ok, wiseguy, I know I can plug it it in, but will it work in MS-DOS?

Question: Will it work in Xenix?

Question: And what about ... Naomi ? (If you are over 30 years of age or
didn't watch TV as a kid, ignore this.)

Since this is of restricted interest, e-mail to me is probably more appro-
priate than replying to the network. If you would like a copy of the replies,
I'll be happy to oblige.

Thank you.

Micro Solutions, DeKalb, IL., has the Compaticard floppy disk controller
which can be used as a secondary (or third or fourth) disk controller on
XT and AT class machines. The board supports two ($ 125) or 4 ($ 175)
drives, and comes with device driver software for all the standard IBM
disk formats in 8", 5.25", and 3.5". The quality software makes the
board worth the premium price. Documentation and support from the
factory are excellent.
