I need help resurrecting some antique junk. To wit, a Microscience 10 mb HD, originally out of a Kaypro 10. (model 194, hh612) Eventual destination is a vanilla IBM PC, about 1983 vintage. Controller to be the cheapest one I can find. Am attempting to test as disk 0 in a Kaypro 16, with a WD-XTGEN (I think) controller. HD switches are set per the Kaypro manual, which says the settings are the same for K10 and K16(HD is 10-switches). Disk spins, and servo arm cycles happily, but WD bios and other 'prep' routines report HD not found.. Questions: 1. Can a WD controller recognize this disk? 2. What switch setting will work? 3. Will typical generic MFM controllers recognize 10mb anymore? 4. Am I trying to turn lead into gold? (:^>) Please, no flames for using bandwith to save a few bucks. IBM in question is owned by a poor college student, using programs that are a pain on a 2-floppy machine. Disk was recovered from a K-10 that died, so it well may have fried electronics. Obviously, before I sink 50-75 $ in a controller, I wanna know if disk works. Repair-shop prices get real close to cost of a new kit. Please E-mail replies. If significant response or tricks pointed out, I will summarize. Thanks in advance. -- Andy Meijers DRMS-LZA <Standard Disclaimers Apply> Phone:(616)961-7253 Defense Reutilization & Marketing Service FTS:552-7253 AV:932-7253 Battle Creek, MI 49017-3092 Internet:ameijers%dlscg1.uucp@daitc.arpa UUCP: {uunet!gould!dsacg1,osu-cis!dsacg1,eecae!dsacng1}!dlscg1!ameijers
