I recently purchased an Archive FT-60 QIC-36 tape drive, and an Everex QIC-36 controller (EV-0831E, for external drives). I purchased this combination because I've seen this device combination packaged and marketed by Everex. Well, it turns out that the FT-60 has a DB-25 25 conductor connector, while the Everex controller has a 62-pin connector! Everex tech support refused to help me, telling me that they do not support "home brewed device combinations", yet they did admit that they market this very combination. The FT-60 has a 50- conductor connector internally, which is run through an adaptor with a 25-conductor output. I know that the FT-60 can be used with an Archive SC-499(R) controller, but I want to use the Everex card. Can somebody tell me where one can obtain a 50-to-62 pin connector? How about a 25-to-62 pin connector? Why is all of this necessary anyway? Why don't the QIC standards specify the connectors that are to be used??? -- Dominick Samperi -- ESCC samperi@marob.masa.com uunet!hombre!samperi
