[comp.periphs] OMTI controller and HD

marcela@maestro.htsa.aha.nl (Marceltje) (09/15/89)

I have an XT-clone with an OMTI HD controller, probably the 5520 A,
but I don't know the settings for a Seagate ST251 (40 MB, 28 ms).

My old HD, a Microscience 20 MB had a terrible headcrash so I purchased
a ST251 from a friend. But now I have it and I don't know what links to
set on the OMTI controller....
The OMTI controller has 8 links (W1-W8) which can be set or unset. With my
old Microscience only link W2 was set.
As my clone was secondhand, I don't have the specs for the OMTI controller.
The Seagate ST251 has (I think) 5 Heads.

Now I'm working with a clone with 1 drive and a HD which I can't connect!
I would be much obliged if anyone could tell me which links to set so I
can finally use my (now unemployed) HardDisc.

There are no direct settings for the ST-251 in the 5520A booklet I found,
but the settings for the ST-277R would appear to work, they list the same
number of cylinders and heads. Try W1 off, W2 on, W3 on, and W4 off. You
could also go through debug, g=c800:6 and answer no to the "use defaults"
question, that would let you enter cylinders and heads directly.
