I just had a most enjoyable evening playing with the new Hewlett-Packard LaserJet Series IIP printer. This is a four page/minute *personal* laser printer. It lists for $1495, but you should pay no more than about $995 from your reputable mail order dealer. This printer is tiny, but don't let its size fool you. Except for the imaging engine speed, the IIP printer is more capable than its big brother, the industry standard LaserJet Series II. The entire paper path is no more than about 6" long, and arranged so that the paper is curled first toward you, then past the imaging roller, and then curled away from you. This means less curl to the pages. The Series IIP printer also takes two forms of *compressed* raster graphics commands, RLE and TIFF. As software matures for the printer, this will mean much shorter times to print pages composed of mostly graphics. In particular, this will be of great importance to people printing *facsimile* documents and *CAD* drawings. I highly recommend this printer to people who have been considering a high end 24 pin printer or DeskJet. Its worth the couple hundred $$$ extra. And, it works beautifully with JetRoff! -- Rick Richardson | Looking for FAX software for UNIX/386 ?????? mention PC Research,Inc.| WE'RE SHIPPING your uunet!pcrat!rick| Ask about FaxiX - UNIX Facsimile System (tm) FAX # (201) 389-8963 | Or JetRoff - troff postprocessor for the HP {Laser,Desk}Jet
