I am beginning to see some advertisements in the MacIntosh arena for tape drives (8mm helical-scan DAT and other types) that claim to store 1 to 3 Gigabytes of data per tape cartridge. I am considering such a device for a SUN SPARCstation and would be interested in any experiences or recommen- dations. We would mostly be using such a device for backups. If you send email, I'll post a summary here. Thanks. Tim Fredrick (fredrick@ncar.ucar.edu) Box 3000, National Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, CO 80307-3000

Does anyone out there know of a removable SCSI hard disk drive that uses the SyQuest drive mechanism (44 meg cartridges cost around $100, access times around 25ms)? I need something that will work on both a Mac and an AT compatible by installing a SCSI card. I also need it to work on the file server of our Novell ELS Level 1 2.0 network, so a device driver would need to be supplied. Also, does anyone know of a laser printer that has a FULL postscript implementation and works with BOTH a Mac (over appletalk) AND an AT compatible (through the parallel port) simultaneously without having to flick a switch at the printer telling it which port to listen to? It doesn't have to be a fast printer, and 300dpi would be fine. Please send info to: INTERNET: jfbruno@rodan.acs.syr.edu - or - BITNET: jfbruno@rodan
