[comp.periphs] Anyone use large

fredrick@acdpyr.ucar.edu (Tim Fredrick) (10/13/89)

I am beginning to see some advertisements in the MacIntosh arena for tape
drives (8mm helical-scan DAT and other types) that claim to store 1 to 3
Gigabytes of data per tape cartridge. I am considering such a device for a
SUN SPARCstation and would be interested in any experiences or recommen-
dations. We would mostly be using such a device for backups. If you
send email, I'll post a summary here. Thanks.

Sun Consulting announced recently that they will be supporting a SCSI
driver that will support the use of 8mm Exabyte drives on the SPARCstation. For
more information call Sun Consulting Headquarters at (415) 336-2400 or e-mail

Does anyone out there know of a removable SCSI hard disk drive that
uses the SyQuest drive mechanism (44 meg cartridges cost around $100,
access times around 25ms)? I need something that will work on both a
Mac and an AT compatible by installing a SCSI card. I also need it to
work on the file server of our Novell ELS Level 1 2.0 network, so a
device driver would need to be supplied.

Also, does anyone know of a laser printer that has a FULL postscript
implementation and works with BOTH a Mac (over appletalk) AND an AT
compatible (through the parallel port) simultaneously without having
to flick a switch at the printer telling it which port to listen to?
It doesn't have to be a fast printer, and 300dpi would be fine.
