A co-worker here seems to remember seeing an ad from a company that makes refillable cartridges for use in ink jet printers from Hewlett-Packard (ThinkJet) or Kodak/Diconix. A couple of weeks ago I asked for info on refillable cartridges
for ThinkJet-style printers. I got two responses. One was from a person
in France who didn't give details but mentioned that there was a French
source. The other responder gave me enough information on a US source
to follow up on.
The manufacturer is Graphic Utilities, based in Waltham, MA. They
have been selling refillable cartridges for the DeskJet printer (different
size than ThinkJet) for a while now. They've just come out with a
refillable cartridge for ThinkJet-style (HP, Diconix) printers, but
don't have good distribution channels set up yet. The DeskJet cartridges
are available from a number of distributors (call for local ones),
including the source mentioned to me by the respondent:

They are even going to produce color (blue, yellow, green, and red)
cartridges for the DeskJet (PaintJet in 4-5 months). The manufacturer says
that they've refilled the cartridges up to 20 times. They claim their ink
is 85% more waterproof than the standard ink used in the disposable
cartridges. Call them for info and local sources for both the DeskJet and
ThinkJet cartridges.
