Could someone please post or send me an idiot's explanation of what the various kinds of QIC tape drives are, what they can do, and what's compatible with what? I've heard of QIC-02, QIC-11, QIC-24, QIC-36, QIC-40, and QIC-150. I have no clue what differences between those types of drives are (except I know that QIC-24 records more tracks than QIC-11, and QIC-150 records more tracks than either of those). Specifically, what are the interface differences between the drive types, and what kinds of cartridges can you use with each? My immediate application is that I have a Sun-2/120 and a Sysgen SC4000 SCSI host adapter. Under SunOS, the Sysgen card can deal with either QIC-11 or QIC-24 format drives. I have no clue what kind of tape drive I need (in all the used computer rags I read, I've never seen a drive listed as QIC-11 or QIC-24 - just QIC-02/36 or QIC-40), or what kinds of cartridges I can use. Specific vendors and model numbers would be a great help. I will put together a summary of anything I get if there's interest. Thanks, --Pat.
