MAXTOR XT-1140 HARD DRIVE: Although this is rated by Maxtor as a 140 megabyte drive, I have been able to run this drive for several months to its maximum capability of 240 MEGABYTES (RLL) WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I talked to the folks at Maxtor and found out that the drive mechanism for the XT-1140 and XT-2190 (160 Megabyte) are exactly the same. The only difference is that the XT-2190 has been rated to run the full 1,224 tracks where the XT-1140 has been rated to run 918 tracks. SPECS: Full Height 24 ms Average Access Time 15 Heads 1,224 Cylinders MS-DOS MFM Format to 160 megs MS-DOS RLL Format to 240 megs Mean Time Between Failure: 40,000 Hours Used for only 4 months Price: $1,000 Note that in MS-DOS normal controllers can only access up to 1,024 cylinders. In order to use the cylinders about 1,024 you must use Disk Manager 4.X or SpeedStore 6.X. This is a high quality drive made by the leader in high capacity hard drive technology. It is used in many work stations and other machines that demand high quality drives. I'm selling it because I need the money for college. This is a great deal considering that the lowest price I've seen for the XT-2190 is $1,600 and for the XT-1140 is $1,500. As you can see the price difference between the 2190 and 1140 is minimal as the only difference is the certification. Please email or call if interested.
