This is an ISA (standard AT bus) bus-master card for the IBM PC/AT &
100% compatible computer systems. Just plug this card into an open
16-bit expansion slot, and turn on the computer. There is no need to
remove your existing 80286 processor -- the Master386 takes control of
the bus, putting your 80286 to sleep. However, the original processor
can still be accessed from a software command or via a keyboard
sequence, for those times you want to remember how slow it was.
The Master386 will use all the existing memory in your system, includ-
ing memory on the motherboard and on expansion cards. To speed up
access to the slower, 16-bit memory, the Master386 includes cache RAM,
which also speeds access to all BIOS ROMs. This cache does not waste
any memory otherwise useful for DOS, Windows, DesqView, etc. If you
want, a 32-bit memory board with 15MB capacity is available from AOX.
I've had the card for four months, during which time I've success-
fully run DesqView/386, QEMM/386, 386Max, and MS-Windows/286 and Mark
Williams Co.'s Coherent (Unix clone). Now I use it daily to run
MS-Windows 3.0 -- which it does extremely well! The only incompat-
ibility I know of is that the Master386 is picky about its
neighborhood -- it won't live in the same system with RLL or ESDI disk
controllers, and it reportedly doesn't like buses that are too fast
(mine is in an 8MHz IBM AT with a 1:1 MFM disk controller, 2.5MB RAM,
internal 2400BAUD modem, scanner, SCSI tape controller, Video-7 VGA).
I bought this board for just over $1,000; it retails for more than that
(about $1,300, I think). The first $500.00 gets the Master386, and
the original diskette and manual, shipped via UPS anywhere in the US
and Canada. What? You say $500 is TOO MUCH!?! Well, make me a
serious offer and I'll consider it. The highest offer received by
22-JUNE-1990 will get the board.
