Hi, While hooking up my hard disk (Micropolis 1355) to my controller (Adaptec 4520A), I stumbled upon a few problems and questions. If anyone can help me with any of these, this would be appreciated greatly. The problems are: 1 mode select does not allow me to specify a cylinder skew of 1. However, according to the manual this should be possible. The only value I could use was 0 (the controller and drive operate in hard sectored mode). How come? Is this a bug in the controller?? Other values result in an illegal parameter error (code 0x26) 2 When reading a number of sectors, which span a cylinder boundary sometimes the read command fails. request sense returns error code 2 (no seek complete) with sense key 3 (medium error). However the user manual says that error code 2 should be accompanied with sense key 4 (hardware error). Why this difference? 3 Why do I get the no seek complete when reading across a cylinder boundary? Does this have to do with the fact that the controller will disconnect across cylinder boundaries?? 4 What does no seek complete actually mean. The user manual just says "seek complete signal missing" which does not help very much either, since I could not find a signal labelled seek complete on any of the connectors. I've figured out that it is very unlikely that it is a temperature or power problem. Since I've spent already quite some time on this problem, even the tiniest suggestion is very welcome.
