I am looking for alternative SCSI mass storage devices (to use along with a hard drive I already have), and I basically see three alternatives: optical drives, removable hard drives, and the basic hard drive. Opticals seem to be too expensive. I am leaning toward a removable, since it will be used mainly for junk (games, pictures, sounds) which don't have to be online at all times. Besides, making hard drive backups would be awfully nice with a removable. Now for the questions. Are there any other mass storage devices I'm missing (it must be SCSI, and work with Apples)? Removables have been around for a while, but haven't really become popular. Why? How is the reliability of removables, and do they need any inordinate amount of care to keep cartridges dust free, etc? Any other comments would be appreciated too. --- Subash Shankar Honeywell Systems & Research Center MN65-2100 voice: (612) 782 7558 US Snail: 3660 Technology Dr., Minneapolis, MN 55418 shankar@src.honeywell.com srcsip!shankar
