[comp.periphs] Third-party disks for Intergraph: an answer

timv@ccad.uiowa.edu (Timothy VanFosson) (10/17/90)

Sometime back I posted a note asking for information on third-party SCSI
for use with Intergraph hardware. Not having gotten any useful information
from our sales rep. or my posting, we did the the next best thing - we took
apart a drive we had and found out what was inside it. The Intergraph
760 MB drive actually turned out to be, ta-da, a Maxtor XT8760S in
disguise (surprise, surprise). We then bought another XT8760S and
have successfully installed it on our Intergraph, being careful to
match the partitioning on the new drive to the partitioning on the old.
We are not sure that this was necessary (the old drive contained a
flaw map partition, and a diagnositics partition, as well as the partition
for user data), but rather than take the time to find out, we assumed
that Intergraph had a reason for it.

The upshot of this all is that we now have our disk drive for about $4000
less than what it would have cost from Intergraph.

Anyone needing more details may contact me by e-mail.
