I figure that most scanners > read only bitmap code. Claere (sp?) produces a system that scans and OCR's producing Ascii text as output. Yes, you guessed it, it is expensive. 20,000 comes to mind. However, they make a variety of configurations from bare boards that fit into a PC all the way to stand alone unit that contain a scanner and OCR system. -- Rick

Ad in the latest MacWorld (December) for Caere's TYPIST hand-held scanner - SEEMS to say it scans text (alfanumeric) directly into applications.
