I'd like to hear from people about how reliable their drives are and how often they need service. Also, how does one go about getting a broken exabyte fixed? Do you have to remove it and ship it somewhere or does someone come to do that for you? Do you get a loaner? (dream on :-) ) Do you keep a spare or some other way to backup while it's out or just hold your breath and wing it? How long does it take to get back and what does it cost. Can you get a maint. contract from anyone? Will these questions never end? Please reply by mail and I'll post a summary of repair places, prices and comments. John H. Exabyte has a factory repair facility. Turn-around time is typically 10-15 days. Extended warranties are usually available from the distributor/ dealer/VAR from whom you purchase the unit. Ask about terms. Some vendors offer next-day replacement warranties, on-site service contracts and other options. Negotiate what you need. Service options may vary depending on your distance from the vendor. -Ken Burner Carnegie-Mellon Computing Services
