There's been a considerable amount of rumor (much of it very entertaining) about problems on MicroVAX IIs running Ultrix-32m, so it seemed possibly worthwhile to forward what I've just heard about it. DISCLAIMER: this is NOT an official statement of Digital Equipment Corporation. The solution has been found for the problem with MicroVAX II systems running Ultrix-32m, which affected 5% - 8% of such systems. It had nothing to do with Ultrix-32m or with the design of the MicroVAX II, but was associated with a particular component in the MicroVAX II. (And although the problem may have existed for MicroVMS-based systems, it would have been masked -- i.e., kept from affecting users -- by VMS operation.) I'm informed that Ultrix-32m will be taken off hold and begin shipping again some time during the week of 16 September 1985. ---Pete Kaiser%BELKER.DEC@decwrl.arpa {allegra|decvax|ihnp4|ucbvax}!decwrl!dec-rhea!dec-belker!kaiser DEC, 77 Reed Road (HLO2-1/N10), Hudson MA 01749 617-568-5441

Dec should be *paying* us for insisting on running an operating system which is so good at finding bugs in their hardware. :-) -- --- David Herron --- ARPA-> ukma!david@ANL-MCS.ARPA --- UUCP-> {ucbvax, unmvax, boulder, oddjob}!anlams!ukma!david --- {ihnp4,decvax,ucbvax}!cbosgd!ukma!david Hackin's in me blood.
