I am compiling a list of papers that belong roughly to a category bounded by the topic of the effective use of human-computer interfaces in the management of complexity, whether said use is for the management of complex information domains, the visualization and use of complex data, or the control of complex systems. For instance, a paper on a complex computer system is no good, but a paper on how the computer is used to manage the same system would be great. A straightforward paper on visualization is less useful than one on viewing very complex or large data. Papers on process control where too much of the process is automated or the user interface is minimal are similarly of lesser value. Any pertinent references would be helpful. Please reply by email if possible, and if anyone would find the final list I produce useful, let me know and I will send you a copy when it is finished. Thanks, Doug Monk (bro@rice.edu)
