I am just begining a literature review on users' attitudes toward various types of computer-assisted instruction. I am particularly interested in knowing about any studies of high-school and college students' beliefs about intelligent tutoring systems and other artificial intelligence programs. Is there any evidence that they are too accepting of the advice these systems give, even when it turns out to be inappropriate? Does anybody have data on the influence of various popular portrayals of AI systems (e.g. Star Wars, Star Trek, 2001) on the general public's beliefs about AI programs? How about opinions? :-) Please e-mail responses and I will summarize in a couple of weeks. John M. Ford fordjm@byuvax.bitnet 131 Starcrest Drive Orem, UT 84058 Brigham Young University
