"The Xerox Star: A Retrospective", Johnson et al, IEEE Computer,
September 1989, pp 11-26.
This is an excellent article. It points out that there has not been an
ergonomic effort like the Star since, and that all of today's interfaces
ignore several of its important lessons. The Mac, by the way, traces its
descent from Smalltalk rather than the Star.
It even lists the lessons Xerox learned from its failure in computers!
Gotta love it.
