We have a user who wants to transfer files between his IBM PC and our 4.2BSD Unix (tm) systems. He is currently able to do this between his PC and our DEC20, but the Unix kermit we've got isn't compatible with his PC's kermit. I'm not sure where our kermit came from; I suspect somebody picked it up off of net.sources ages ago. Does anybody have or know of a Unix kermit that is reasonably compatible with the original DEC20 version? Please reply to me, and if anybody else cares I'll reply to them or the net. Thanks. I thank everyone who has responded to my request for pointers to a better kermit. The state of the art in kermits is apparently C-Kermit, available for anonymous ftp from CU20B.ARPA (see the file KER:AAAREAD.ME), along with kermits for every (almost) imaginable machine/OS combination. These kermit implementations are also available via USENET through Oklahoma State University (write them or me for details). So, thanks again to those who replied, and thanks also to Columbia and Oklahoma State for the public service. Michael Lichter Caltech Computer Science michael@cit-vlsi.arpa
