I recently received a rumor that the new Trailblazer modems work great at 19.2kb, even cross-country on the dialup network. Supposedly the San Diego supercomputer consortium uses them and like thems. New roms fix the old long turnaround time problem. This all sounds too good to be true. I'd love confirmation about how these modems are for asynch terminal use, price, etc. -mark -- Spoken: Mark Weiser ARPA: mark@mimsy.cs.umd Phone: +1-301-454-7817 CSNet: mark@mimsy UUCP: {seismo, allegra}!mimsy!mark USPS: Computer Science Dept., University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742

To add to Mark's request for information about Telebit's Trailblazer, I'd be VERY interested in hearing from anyone using high-speed (>= 9600 baud) modems for TCP/IP. We are investigating several different brands (including Telebit and Microcom) and have had some trouble getting them to run at their peak capacity. For reference, we are running SLIP so turn around time is quite important. If you are doing similar work, could you please drop a note mentioning the brand of modem, what sort of performance you get, what sort of protocol you are using, and what sorts of calls do you make most frequently?
