Here at decwrl we run SLIP at 9600 baud with no problem at all. Two or three of us use leased lines; the rest use dialup. It works flawlessly. The hardware configuration is that at each end, there is a UDS 9600-A/B modem and a UDS EC-100 Error Corrector. I run Ultrix 1.2, and a "routed" to enable it to find routes, and bingo--my home machine is on the ARPAnet. I save files by rdisting over the link every night. I can run X with the server on my home machine and the client on a big host at decwrl.
