keyles@BLUE.RUTGERS.EDU.UUCP (01/23/87)

I would like to buy an external 2400 modem. Any suggestions?
Does anyone know of a reliable mail order place to get it??

Thanks,
Mike

AS usual, someone (including me) asks

>>Can anyone recommend a good 2400 baud modem?

BYTE had a seemingly thorough review that recommended the ATT and
MULTITECH modems.

AT&T's 4124 is a good tri-speed 2400 bps modem. It topped the ratings in
some magazine run off about 6-12 months ago. Get the location of an AT&T
phone center store or independent retailer on 1-800-222-3111. If you have
trouble getting help with this send me unix mail.

If anyone wants source info on AT&T 4124 or other modems, send me
unix mail at ihnp4!ocsmb!rvk. I use a pool of AT&T 2224's, a higher
priced "industrial" strength version of the consumer products division
4124, and have found them just like the old 212A's; that is they work
without glitches and seem indestructible.

I called the above number and was told that they only handled residential
telephones. They told me to call 1-800-247-7000, the business end of the
business. THEY said that there is no such thing as a 4124; that it must be an
old Bell Telephone model number.

(One Bell system - it used to work :-)
