Date: Saturday, 24 January 1987 23:14-MST From: uhccux!todd at NOSC.MIL (The Perplexed Wiz) I'm thinking of getting the WorldLink 1200 modem (Touchbase Systems) for my portable computers (NEC MultiSpeed, HP110, Tandy Model 100). The modem is 4"x2"x1", runs on a 9v battery, and is Hayes compatible. The list price is $199... If anyone in netland has used this modem, I'd like to hear/read what you think of it...thanks...todd ----- I use one of these and recommend it highly. I have a remote system with a *real* Hayes Smartmodem 1200 and the WorldLink 1200 is the ONLY other modem I've been able to use with the system! (software/hardware gives the modem a real workout)... Features; - 100% of Hayes "AT" command set implemented and work exactly the same as on a Hayes with the same defaults. [yes, ATH2 will busy out the line] - Has RS-232 status lines for CD (carrier detect), RI (ring), DSR (data set ready), CTS (clear to send) and SDCD/CI (high speed indicator) [note SDCD/CI is TTL level not RS-232] - Switch selectable disconnect on loss of RS-232 DTR (data terminal ready) [this allows you to disable the +++ escape and use DTR to hang up] - mini jacks for either Radio Shack acoustic cups (work at 1200!) and or external 9 volt power supply. [standard RJ-11 jack, of course] - along with Bell 103A/212A it also has CCITT V.21 and V.22 either switch or software selectable. - auto power down at DTR drop (if switch selected) and always when RJ-11 and RS-232 connectors are removed (from either end on both). - additional AT commands include; ! flash line / wait for 1/8 second @ wait for second dial tone B (or B0) CCITT B1 Bell 103/212A X2 enable dial tone detection X3 enable busy signal detection X4 enable both diall tone and busy signal detection mis-features; - only has LEDs for low battery, high speed, carrier detect, and call progress [lights with sound on line, replaces speaker] - missing some of the Hayes switches, but these are software settable and power up with the Hayes "factory default" settings. - high quality 9V battery only lasts for 10 Hrs of connect time [but how long will the same battery power your modem?] Mail any questions/replies directly to me as I'm not on this list. I checked it out when announced but found the signal/noise ratio poor. -Paul
