[comp.dcom.modems] Wierd problem with uucp dialing

kaberline@ford-vax.UUCP.UUCP (02/25/87)

I've also seen the same problem that both Mark Mendel and
David Barto report. However, to add a bit more confusion,
we have three systems here, all Masscomp computers with
Racal-Vadic VA212 modems.

The symptoms:
-------------

System 1: Works just fine, no apparent problems.

System 2: Exhibits the same problems the above
		   mentioned people reported; i.e.,
uucico sees the remote systems id,
		   then login prompt, then immediately
		   reverts to garbage, and nothing
sent after this will work. A direct
		   connection (cu, kermit) works perfectly.

System 3: Can't dial out at all using the
		   RV modem, somehow uucico isn't
		   recognizing the characters echoed
back by the modem during the dialing
sequence. Users can call in via
the same modem, though, with no
		   problems, so that suggests that
		   cabling, parity, speed, etc. are
		   correct?

I might add that using an earlier (approx. 1 year old)
version of uucico fixes the uucico problem of system 3,
and that all systems are using functionally identical
L.sys files.

I'm certainly open to suggestions! Anyone (particularly
with a Masscomp computer) get an RV modem to work properly
with uucico? If so, I'd be interested in seeing your modem
options setup and your relevant uucp files.

Thanks!
