We "solved" the problem we were having getting uucp to work through a BYTCOM 24/12ADH modem. The problem was caused by using speed matching, which allows the DTE (computer dialout port) to be 2400 bps, and the modem automatically speed converts the data even if you connect at a lower speed such as 1200 bps. Speed matching is enabled by the command AT\J1. We could not get uucp to work through the modem when speed matching was enabled, even if the DTE was at the same speed as the speed of the called modem, and whether the speed was 1200 or 2400 bps. Just issuing AT\J1 causes uucp to fail. UUCP works fine at 1200 or 2400 bps if speed matching is turned off (AT\J0). Of course, then the speed of the DTE must be the same as the speed at which the modem connects. In all cases, MNP was turned off. Thanks to all who responded (you know who you are).
