[comp.dcom.modems] Apology to Phil and all

tr@thumper.UUCP (04/27/87)

I got mail from someone named Phil Earnhardt. His return
address was unlike any address I have ever seen. This mail
is to all, but particularly to you because I feel I should
respond. I tried to mail but the mail was returned.

My response to the help offered was obnoxious. Sorry for
the offense. It was not unique, however. I modeled it
after others like it, which is an explanation, not an
excuse.

In retrospect, I should have taken what I got, the good with
the bad, and stay quiet. However, while I was not right for
posting such anger, I still think those who posted
misinformation should be careful and those who told me that
yes, I had a problem, wihtout offering anything close to
informative, would have served me better by not responding.
Yes, for the type of service I seemed to expect, I should
hire someone. Sorry about that. But I think my
thoughtlessness was equal to those who responded, not
greater. It is not an excuse but rather a point on which I
hope you agree.

Some apology...

Some things are better left unsaid, and you would have done well
to take the advise of those who took you to task for speaking out
before. I don't know what you expect from this network, but if
you got any correct answer at all, you should consider yourself
lucky. The net operates on the good will of those who have information
to share and on the sufferance of those who might have to wade through
some well-meaning but incorrect suggestion, and, yes, even some
smart-alec answers too. Life is tough, and you won't get very far
by bellyaching about it. How old are you anyway? Sheesh!

Two observations:

	1. Mr. Dyer is right.
	2. What do you expect for free?? (you got what
	   you paid for!)
