I am looking for 1200/2400 baud async modems that can be plugged directly into a D4 channel bank (that is the demultiplexer for T1 service). Why take the channel to 2-wire analog then to what is (usually) a digital signal processor, when I ought to be able to get better performance (and fewer parts) by accepting the call data in digital form in the first place. Does such a beast exist? Failing that, are there any 4-wire modems. I have a situation with noisy lines, and have the opportunity to take the local lines in T1 format rather than as 24 analog circuits. The remote users are dialing in with Hayes type modems.
